The soils comprising the tillable acreage on this farm consists of Hagerstown silt loam and Hublesrburg silt loam. Both of these are excellent, very highly productive soils. The fields are level to gently rolling. The tillable acreage in Centre County is primarily limestone soil. Most of them are a mix of Hagerstown or Hublersburg, along with less productive soils such as Buchanan, Opequon-Hagerstown complex, and many others. It is extremely rare to find an entire farm comprised of outstanding soils as this farm is.
The current owners have filed an application for the 2015 Farmland Preservation (PACE) program. If selected, they or the buyers will have the choice to enroll and sell the farm development rights. This farm is situated among many large farms already in the program.
